pay back their debt and this is just one of the ways that they could do it. Another one of the ways that people feel is unreasonable for criminals to repay their debt to society is through prison work camps. Many people see this as slave type labor and that they feel that the criminals have already been punished enough through their imprisonment. I can agree with the fact that a lack of freedom would be a great punishment, but if they are not made to do anything further than imprisonment then I don’t feel that they are repaying their debt to society. Although there may be minor flaws with the approaches that I feel necessary to correct our prison system, I still feel that the pros will outweigh the cons and these changes will benefit our country.
Consequently, in it’s current state of corruption; the American prison system is no longer doing it’s job to reform criminals. Prisons are no better for criminals that the streets that they came from, sometimes even worse. Therefore, as much as the criminals in our prisons need to be reformed, so does our concept of what a prison should do for the criminals it holds. Currently, we are just throwing money at a problem that needs more drastic changes. Thus, I feel that as a country we need to fix the problem through privatization of prisons. Whether these companies make a profit or not, they are going to do everything they can to fix the problems in the prison system. The corruption can no longer continue without drastic ramifications being seen. Something has to be done.
