| supposedly the musical one in the family, spent a lot of time with me in the past taking me to operas and concerts, so I chose something that we could both do together and Mozart's Don Giovanni is his favorite. This was also a suitable choice for me because I was familiar with the music, not educated about it, but I knew what to expect musically from a production of Don Giovanni.
The recorded version of Mozart's opera that I used to prepare myself for the concert performance is unfortunately not one of my favorites, but it is the one which I had become accustomed to listening to since it was in my family's music collection. Also, the thought of having to purchase another version of this most usually expensive opera was too dear in itself, thus I stayed with the familiar. Herbert von Karajan directed the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in a recording of 1985. The cast of characters is:
